and Processing Visa Applications

• Except for those exempt from this formality, foreign nationals wishing to travel to Algeria must first obtain a visa from Embassy of Algeria in the Hague, the only authorized institution in The Netherlands.

• Holders of diplomatic, service, and UN passports should contact the Embassy (consular.affairs@embalg.nl) to find out the applicable procedures.

• The visa application must be submitted to the embassy within 90 days before the desired start date of the visa's validity, and not before this period.

• Visas are generally issued for a single entry with a 30-day stay. However, multiple-entry consular visas may be issued by Algerian diplomatic and consular missions. They are valid for three (03) months, six (06) months, one (01) year, or two (02) years. They include periods of stay not exceeding ninety (90) days. The cumulative actual stay in the national territory cannot exceed one hundred and eighty (180) days per year. The maximum length of stay for a transit visa is seven (07) days.

• The passport must be valid for more than 6 months at the time of applying for the visa. It should also be noted that the passport must be valid for more than 3 months at the end of the stay in Algeria (visa expiration date).

• The passport must have at least two blank pages.

• For applicants who do not hold a Dutch passport, proof of legal residence in the Netherlands must be provided, including:

1. For citizens of countries exempt from the residence permit requirement: a BRP (Basisregistratie Personen) certificate issued by the municipality of residence within the last six months,

2. For nationalities other than those mentioned in the first paragraph: a valid residence permit for at least three months from the expected expiration date of the visa must be presented.

• For minor children under the age of 18 on the date the visa application is submitted, the application must be submitted by one of the parents, who must provide either the child's birth certificate (Uittreksel or Akte van geboorte) or the family record book and a photocopy of it to prove family link.

• Visa applications can only be submitted at the Embassy headquarters, by appointment, from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Applications received by email or post will not be considered.

• Visa applicants must present themselves personally at the Embassy.  They may, however, appoint an accredited visa company (VisumPro, EmbassyExpress, CIBTVisas, Visa service Desk, Visum International, Visum service Valdemar) or a third party to carry out the formalities on their behalf. In this case, the agent must have a power of attorney from the principal, his or her own identity document and the principal's passport. The Embassy reserves the right to require the physical presence of the applicant if it deems this necessary for the processing of the application.

• Applicants must prepare the necessary documents according to  the type of visa they are applying for (tourist, family, business, cultural, medical, work, temporary work...);

• Applicants must ensure that they have identity photos and a printout of all required documents (which must be legible) before arriving at the Embassy. If they forget to do so, the municipal library is located on: Scheveningen Library Scheveningensweg 333, 2584AA, Den Haag, 500 meters from the Embassy. For identity photos, the two nearest photographers are Fero Studio, Keizerstraat 229 2584BG Den Haag (closed Tuesdays), 700 meters away, and Evelyne Photography, Frederik Hendirklaan 2582BX Den Haag, 850 meters away.

• The passport is deposited with the Embassy during the visa application processing period against a receipt. The original receipt must be carefully retained to be able to retrieve the passport. The passports of flight crews, diplomatic passports, service passports, and United Nations laissez-passer are exempt from this procedure.

• The average processing time for visa applications from Dutch nationals is a minimum of 14 days. In some cases, this period may be extended and does not imply that a visa will be issued. For other nationalities, please contact the Embassy for further details.

• Passports can be collected on Wednesdays and Fridays from 09:00 am to 01:00 pm on the date indicated on the receipt given when the application was submitted, by the applicant himself or herself or by the person or company duly authorized to submit the application and collect the passport, and on presentation of the original visa application receipt.

• For receipts marked “TBC” (To be communicated), the passport is collected after the Embassy has received a telephone call (070.352.29.54) or an e-mail (consular.affairs@embalg.nl) indicating that the visa is ready.

• If you wish to collect your passport from a person other than those listed above, you will need to present a power of attorney authenticated by the Municipality, together with an original identity document and a photocopy of it.

• The Embassy reserves the right to request any documents and information it deems necessary (even if they are not mentioned in the list for the category of visa applied for during the processing and examination of the visa application.

• Incomplete applications cannot be accepted or processed;

• For refused visas, the reasons are not systematically communicated.

• Visa applications are subject to the payment of consular fees, the amount of which is determined by the applicant's nationality and age, as well as the visa category, duration, and number of entries. For Dutch citizens, the visa fees are detailed below. As for other nationalities, please consult the Consular Affairs and Visa Office for more information (some categories and nationalities are exempt).

• Payment by credit card only. Visa fees are not refunded in the event of cancellation of the visa application by the applicant, nor in the event of visa refusal.
