H.E. Ambassador Salima Abdelhak delivered Algeria’s statement during the General Debate of the 110th Session of the OPCW Executive Council. She reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention as a cornerstone of multilateral disarmament and collective security, and emphasized the OPCW’s vital role in addressing today’s complex geopolitical challenges and preventing the re-emergence of chemical weapons.
The statement underscored three priorities: achieving the universality of the Convention, strengthening international cooperation, and ensuring a consensual recommendation to the CSP for the appointment of the next Director-General. She reiterated Algeria’s view that the next Director-General must embody the highest standards of competence, impartiality, and integrity, and remain firmly committed to upholding international law, advancing multilateral cooperation, and promoting diversity within the Organization.
